Energy & code
What is Title 24?
Title 24 is California's building code chapter covering energy efficiency — insulation, windows, HVAC, lighting, and increasingly solar and storage. Every new permit triggers a Title 24 compliance check; the consultant report is part of a complete plan-check submittal.
Title 24 Part 6 is the energy code most owners encounter. It mandates minimum efficiency by climate zone, prescribes window U-factor and SHGC, and requires solar for most new residential construction since 2020.
Remodels meeting a threshold of altered area or new conditioned space must bring affected systems to current standards. Replacing a roof typically triggers cool-roof compliance.
